I can't believe how big he is getting! I blows my mind that he is only one year older than Nathan. You could try rice to replace sand, haven't done it myself but heard this suggestion the other day, or dried beans.
I think the substitute sand box is very clever. We use big blocks (paper towel rolls from Sam's Club) on rainy days. They are perfect for little hands.

He is getting so big!!! He is a little boy now. Sad...that times goes by so fast and I don't see you nearly enough!
